Free RaceCapture/Pro MK1 firmware and app update!

Love for MK1

MK1? Yes, you heard that right. We’ve been pounding the keyboards behind the scenes working hard to bring MK1 up to the same software and app level as RaceCapture/Pro MK2.  And this isn’t just a one-time effort: We’ve invested a ton in our software architecture so that we can continue delivering features in unison across MK1 and MK2 platforms.

Does this make good business sense? Some would tell us no and to drop support for previous versions like a hot potato. We believe otherwise and value the belief you’ve placed in our vision and the trust you’ve given us. This is our thank you for that support.

What’s new?

Nearly everything. A ton of new app and firmware features, on top of a number of bug fixes. After listening to you, many features were aimed at making the system more plug & play and work right out of the box. Here’s what’s noteworthy:

Brand new appRC_App_homescreen

We’re building one, beautiful touch-oriented app that will soon show up on all platforms: Windows (current) OSX, Linux, Android (in beta) and even iOS.  You’ll be able to configure all of RaceCapture/Pro’s settings, view dashboard data, and do lap analysis (coming very soon) – right from your touch screen interface and you can leave that awkward laptop at home.

Automatic track detection

You can load up your favorite race tracks and have the system self-configure as soon as you arrive on site. It just works, and we know you’re too busy to mess with last minute settings.

Predictive lap timing and Sector timing

If you’re running the current Android App as your dashboard, enable predictive lap timing and make sure your track is detected. After a lap of “learning mode” it will show you the anticipated lap time. It’s awesome, and great for keeping a steady pace!

On top of lap times you can also define up to 20 sector points per track for fine grained sector timing – this will feed right in to our analysis capabilities.

CAN OBD-II Support

If you’re running a 2008+ vehicle you can add the CANx module (special order, drop us an email) and query OBD-II channels over a CAN bus interface.

Improvements to Logging

The open-format CSV log file format has been improved with proper timestamps on each sample so you can easily do video overlays with popular software like Dash Ware and Race Render.

Improvements to Stability

While developing the V2 firmware for RaceCapture/Pro MK2 we made a bunch of stability improvements that fed right into the MK1 firmware you can enjoy now. The Lua scripting powering your custom behaviors is improved and more stable as well.

Get it

Since it’s the first V2 firmware release for MK1, we’re officially calling it ‘Beta’ but in reality we feel it’s much more improved over the v1.2.x series.

To start, head over to the RaceCapture/Pro downloads page – download the app and new firmware and start playing with the new features. Be sure to review the main information and how-to pages.

Got questions or problems updating your firmware? Drop us a note on the RaceCapture section of the forums and we’ll help out ASAP.

Thank you.

Thank you on behalf of the Autosport Labs team. We couldn’t do this without you, and with your support, we’re charging forward.
