RaceCapture / PodiumConnect firmware 2.21.0 released with new features and fixes

We’re excited to announce the release of firmware version 2.21.0 for RaceCapture and PodiumConnect systems! This update brings powerful enhancements for data logging, analysis, and reliability—plus native support for the brand-new PodiumConnect/Micro.

⚡ What’s New in 2.21.0

✅ PodiumConnect/Micro Compatibility
Firmware 2.21.0 adds full support for the ultra-compact PodiumConnect/Micro, delivering powerful real-time telemetry in a tiny, ruggedized package.

🏁 Native Best Lap + Lap Delta
BestLap and LapDelta calculations are now built directly into the firmware, ensuring BestLap and LapDelta are always calculated, even if running headless (no connected app). (BestLap and LapDelta are currently calculated within the app, but will be deprecated in an upcoming release)

💾 Persistent Best Lap Tracking
If you’re running a RaceCapture or PodiumConnect with SD / flash storage, your best lap is now saved to the SD card automatically—per track. When you revisit a circuit, your best lap is already loaded and ready to compare.

📜 New Lua Scripting Functions
You can now store persistent variables using Lua scripts with the new saveVar() and loadVar() functions—perfect for tracking cumulative stats or customizing behavior between sessions.

🧹 Smarter SD Card Management
If your SD card is nearly full, RaceCapture will automatically clean up the oldest log files to ensure continuous logging without manual intervention.

📶 Telemetry Defaults Refined
Cellular telemetry background streaming is now off by default, and triggered by the automatic logging start/stop. So you can enable it when you’re actually racing, avoiding accidental data usage.

🚀 Faster Log Startup
Large SD card with hundreds of log files? No problem. Logging now starts faster and more reliably, even when your card is packed.

🎛️ Improved Log Button Handling
Debounce logic for the log start/stop action button is refined, preventing unintentional triggers.

🧠 Smarter Auto Logging
Auto-start/stop logging thresholds have been tweaked to make more sense for real-world situations, helping ensure you capture the data you care about—without over-logging noise or dead time.

How to upgrade firmware

Step 1 – backup your current configuration

Using your windows, Linux, or OSX computer, connect to RaceCapture using the USB connection. Save your current configuration to a file by navigating to Setup, and pressing the Save button.

Step 2 – Download the firmware for your device

Download your firmware from http://podium.live/software , ensuring you download the correct firmware for your device and generation (MK2, MK3, etc).

Step 3 – Upgrade your firmware

Navigate to Setup / Firmware and upgrade your firmware using the on-screen prompts.

Step 4- Restore your configuration

Once the firmware is upgraded, go to Setup , Load the configuration you just saved, and press ‘write’ to write it back to your system. You are now upgraded!
