RaceCapture Kickstarter: Production updates!

(You can also see this on our Kickstarter update page)

The chosen ones

If you signed up as a willing beta tester we’ll be pulling a group from the list, prioritized by when you first backed the project.  Watch for your shipping notification soon! (see more below)

Packaging

It really isn’t the final awesome retail packaging we want, but it’s shiny, it’s red, and it will do for now!  Testing the fitment of the OBD-II cable and the RaceCapture unit:

 Stabilizing firmware and app

Stabilizing the app and the firmware is our highest priority before we feel comfortable getting it to you – there are a few key things to get in place before the first batch gets out the door! Fortunately, the focus is stabilization, which means we’re getting close enough to taste it.

App features

There’s a few key things we need in place to get this ready to go. Namely:

  • Live recording of data from RaceCapture -> app, with the ability to review data as soon as you get off track with just a few touches on the screen.  Ryan’s done a brilliant job on this and we can’t wait to get a demo video of this in action.
  • A smarter track detection algorithm tailored for the new RaceCapture
  • Getting the pieces in place for fully enabling WiFi streaming data between RaceCapture and the RaceCapture app.
  • Some rigorous final testing on our end. Well, we’re never really done testing, but you get what we mean.

Firmware features

Actually, there aren’t any firmware features left to do (for this initial release), and that’s thanks to thorough ass kicking on Andrew’s part. What did happen was a bit of drama around our bootloader, which, admittedly caught our breath a bit. See, we don’t want a bootloader failure that will turn your RaceCapture into a brick – it has to work perfectly, every time – it’s kind of a critical thing. So we’re getting that 100% solid. And then we test along side with the RaceCapture app.

When shipping?

We thought tomorrow we’d get going shipping the first batch, but the fact of the matter is we need this stabilized before we can start send anything out. It’s looking like sometime next week – it really does feel so close!

Next Update

Next update will be very soon – we’ll have a demo video as well as an update on the highly anticipated classic OBDII adapter (code named OBD2CAN), big progress there.
